Again, Nigerians have spoken out their anger over National Identification card after Dr. Joe Abah, Nigerian Director of DAI, disseminated that he’s presently one of the Digital identification Committee.
“Mr President has appointed me into the Steering Committee to drive digital identification, chaired by the SGF. Our task is to give all Nigerians a digital identity within 5 years. We will integrate other data that govt holds, like BVN, drivers licence & passports, with NIMC’s NIN”, he disclosed.
Following social media as National ID trends on Twitter platform, many lamented with the say that they are yet to collect their permanent National ID card known as National Identification Management Commission, NIMC’s NIN.
“It only takes 5-10mins to get a customised ATM MasterCard but why does it take almost ‘forever years’ to get a National ID?
“I did registration for National ID in 2013. Queued for 3 days, spent 12 hours each day until I succeeded. On my date of birth, instead of “15th’, they wrote “5th”. for me to correct it, they requested for 15,000 naira to correct it?
“It’s been 8 years plus that I registered for National ID and still ready yet, NIMC is a what?
“Corruption in Nigeria is affecting everything including the issuing of National ID, all u get is a temporary slip. Meanwhile, you walk into a bank to open an account then get an ATM if requested. Whoever is in charge of NIN, NIMC are fraudsters, the contractors and all others
“I applied for my National ID card in 2014 and I got a text to come pick the Permanent Card in 2018. I went there in December 2019 for collection. It showed Date of Issue as 2015 didn’t really pain me until I saw EXPIRY DATE AS OCT. 2020. How why will my Nationality expire?
However, Dr. Joe Abah replied Nigerians that they should forget their card once after they have gotten their National Identity Number (NIN).
“If you have your National Identity Number, I would encourage you to forget the card. You don’t have a BVN card, do you?”, he stated.
Meanwhile, many congratulated him for his new appointment, assured Nigeria for their National Identification card, noted that Dr. Joe Abah will deliver the interest of Nigerians.
