Rape cases hit 3,600 during lockdown, Minister of Women Affairs discloses

...Rapists to pay N5million Fine

Lockdown used as measure to curb the spread of Covid-19 nationwide, has led to increment of rape record as presently Nigeria have nothing less than 3,600 rape cases.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Pauline Tallen, disclosed the record for update purposes as she reached out to the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege.

Speaking on the development, she said the Commussioners of Women Affairs across the 36 States revealed that each state data not less than 100 rape cases during the Covid-19 lockdown.

In her statement, she further disclosed that Sexual Harassment Bill was passed into law on July 7th as its prohibit harrassment neither violence for students in Tertiary Institutions and jail term for 14years above depending on the nature of harrassment offences.

Relatively, according to her, she added that Fine of 5million naira will be paid by the rapist.
