A Chieftain of People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Mohammed Magawanta on Monday, blamed the state government for continuous bandit’s attack, despite the ban on motorcycles, restrictions of tricycles and network shutdown.

On September 26, 2021, the state government banned the use of motorcycles, restricted tricycles movement from 6.00am -7.00pm and shut down mobile networks to reduce incessant attacks on the citizens.

Magawanta who expressed disappointment at the administration of the state by Governor Nasir El-Rufai decried the free operations of bandits and gunmen despite the shut down of mobile networks over security threats.

He said since the network was shut down some weeks ago, including the suspension of motorcycles and tricycles, it is innocent residents who suffer while bandits and criminals continue to use their motorcycles as means of transport to convey their victims to the bushes.

Magawanta who is a lecturer at the Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State, while speaking with DAILY POST noted that only residents are affected by the security measures taken by the state government.

“Since the restrictions of motorcycles and tricycles in the state, residents in the state are not finding things easier. Prices of food items have doubled. You dare not return home before 6pm, unless you prefer to sleep where you have been to or you may choose to trek home.

” Upon all that the people are passing through, bandits are still having a field day in their hideouts, choose where to go and decide who to attack. When bandits attack you or your next-door neighbour, you cannot make calls for assistance, because there is no network. Bandits use their motorcycles to convey their victims to their den. It’s terrible.

He said, there were incidents of bandits’ attacks in some villages within Kajuru, Birnin Gwari, since shutting down telecommunication in those Local government areas.

He added that, since network services have been disrupted due to insecurity in the state, the safety of those residing within the Kaduna metropolis was no longer guaranteed.

“With all the network seizure, if the bandits strike in any of the local government within Kaduna metropolis, there is 100percent guarantee that they will operate freely and go successfully. The security agents will not be there because, no network, friends and family relations will not be there because, no network. No help from anywhere because the network is dead. Bandits are free to come, cook whatever food they want to eat, and go anytime they want because there is no network to communicate. It’s a sorry situation for all in this trying period.” He said
