The vacant Oloja of Lagos chieftaincy stool has finally been filled after more than three years of protracted tussle. Prince Tiamiyu Abiola Olojo Kosoko is the monarch-elect. Kosoko, a Lagos prince from the Olojo family, was ratified by the kingmakers at the weekend. He defeated three other aspirants to the throne – Prince Issa Adeyemi Aregbeshola, Prince Ismail Adedayo Kosoko, and Prince Dotun Olaluwoye. The last Oloja of Lagos, Chief Adebola Ige, joined his ancestors on December 23, 2017.

The tussle for the coveted seat has caused strife within the family, putting members in disarray. But a reconciliation committee headed by renowned actor, Prince Jide Kosoko, waded into the crisis, leading to the emergence of  Prince Kosoko. At a general meeting held at the palace in Ereko, Lagos, the head of the royal family, Alhaja Mutiat Abimbola Ashabi Alli-Balogun, who presented the new monarch, said his nomination followed due process and was ratified by the kingmakers.

Speaking after his emergence, the new Lagos monarch said his selection marks the beginning of a new dawn for the family and Lagos as a whole. “I plan to unite everybody by first settling all the rifts. The family should see me as their Chief Servant. The youths must be ready for the task ahead. My doors will always be opened. Everybody in the family is just happy this is finally happening,” he said.
