The Senior Special Adviser, Garba Shehu, on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, has bashed a Nigerian Lecturer over foodstuff prices in the country.
Ahmed Adamu, University of Abuja Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics, blamed the directive of Mr President to stop the release of forex for food and fertilizer importation.
According to him, it is very wrong and bad moments for Mr President to have issued such order, knowing fully that there is high inflation already in the country’s economy.
“We are facing insecurity in the country and with the directive issued by Buhari, there will be food scarcity and increase in food prices in the country”, he stated.
In response to the complaint, Shehu Garba said, “To say that there is still increase in foodstuff prices is wrong and that the Scholar must have detached himself from happenings in the market”.
Garba Shehu added that meeting was done recently with the National Food Security Council as it was gathered that foodstuff prices have come down with large differences.
“For instance, rice that used to be #25,000 is now #20,000, Maize old price of #18,000 is now #14,000 to #15,000”, he submitted.
