The Federal government from the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, and Ministry of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, have disclosed the country readiness to scrap plastic ID cards and settle for digital.
The Ministers earlier announced that the use of plastic ID cards will merely be for convenience, however, the new policy to go digital will involve individuals’ DNA samples.
Added that the real thing useful is ‘numbers’ that with that database and everything about you will be known but only that DNA samples have to be updated with it.
According to Isa Pantami, “The idea of Plastic IDs production will be scrapped to strengthen the provided digital platforms.
“Our major focus is not digital ID, it will be added to your database wherever you are.
“Once you have the digital ID and not the plastic cards, we are 100 percent done with you”, he mentioned.
Moreover, it was further stressed that the Digital ID have started to be used on International passports. Added that if the Digital number given, can be memorised, wherever Nigerians are, the database will domicile with National Identification Management Commission.
