Following the rape and murder incident of Vera Omozuwa, 22 years old undergraduate of University of Benin, UNIBEN, the Tertiary school management thereby urged students to be mindful of company they keep and their visitation to places.
UNIBEN released the statements to commensurate with the family and show concern over their lost student.
According to the report, late Vera was a 100level student of Microbiology department, UNIBEN , was raped and killed by an unknown gang.
Added that she was hit with a fire extinguisher on her head, however, the incident happened in a church, The Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Benin.
In the statement released by the UNIBEN management through the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami, she said below;
“The actions of the incident are condemnable and should not be condoned by any society as the pandemic is already hard on everyone and compounding with inflicting additional pain on any family is a wicked act”.
Relatively in the statement, Professor Salami commiserated with the bereaved family as she prayed to God for Vera Omozuwa’s soul to rest in perfect peace.
Meanwhile, the school management has sent delegations to commiserate with the family.
Following the incident report, the governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki, also noted that he has ordered the Nigeria Police Force to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the death of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa.
“The Police has been mandated to identify, arrest and prosecute anyone found culpable in her death. The Violence Against Persons (VAP) Law is in effect in our state.
“Using this law, we would ensure to investigate what exactly transpired and deal decisively with the those found complicit in the dastardly act, whoever they might be”, he painfully stated.
Reactions from Nigerians, friends and families have shown a painful concern over the wicked incident as many injected that justice should prevail and put an end to rape in the society.
